From a Small Group of Friends to a Movement of Compassion

Lunch Bag Social began in 2016 as a simple act of service. What started with a few friends coming together to hand out lunch bags and essentials to unhoused individuals in Washington, D.C. has since grown into a full-scale community outreach organization.

We didn’t start with funding, fanfare, or formal titles — just a shared belief that no one should feel forgotten.

Since then, we’ve served over 100,000 of our neighbors in the D.C. area — not just with food, but with toiletries, seasonal care kits, and most importantly, human connection.

Our mission is rooted in compassion, consistency, and community. Whether it’s offering a hot meal, a fresh pair of socks, or simply a conversation, we strive to meet people where they are and remind them they’re not alone.

Today, Lunch Bag Social continues to grow through the power of volunteers, local partnerships, and grassroots love. From monthly service events to donation drives and pop-up outreach efforts across the DMV, we’re building something bigger than ourselves — one bag, one block, and one neighbor at a time.
